Christian Bundegaard is a Danish born painter, who divides his time between his art studios in Sóller and on the island of Bornholm in the Baltic Sea. A modernist working in the traditional medium of oil on canvas, Bundegaard explores the intricacies of the illusions of space vs. the material flatness of the painting. “I often feel like I am trying to make a passage”, he says. “A passage between paint in its concrete existence, and this peculiar thing, the picture, which can be something very ephemeral, almost dreamlike in the sensations it generates. This passage, from what is, to what could be, can be quite narrow. However, each of my paintings is an invitation to its audience to keep the passage open.”
